The comparison of the advantages and disadvantages between the videokymography and the full high-speed camera has been reported in several previous papers.{WITTENBERG2000} {HERTEGARD2003} Therefore, it is not necessary to make a comparison list again. However, the new system not only keeps the advantages of the old videokymography, but also has several abovementioned improvements, which make the videokymographic system has more advantages than before. The most important advantage of the new videokymographic system over the full high speed camera is its high image quality, which includes high spatial resolution, high temporal resolution and high signal-noise-ratio image. Another important advantage is lower data volume. Therefore, the kymographic image can be captured in real time without the time constraint, which is an annoying problem in the high speed camera system. A disadvantage of the videokymographic system is that the longitudinal motion of the vocal folds between the anterior and posterior commission (AP modes) can hardly be obtained directly. However, the new system provides the precise position information for scanning the kymographic image, so that the AP mode can be retrieved by scanning the vocal fold from the anterior position to the posterior position approximately.
